A Vision of Mammoth
In the 1930's, Dave
McCoy and his friends envisioned a
bright and promising future for Mammoth. Today, those dreams are
being realized through Dave’s partnership with Intrawest.
is
the leading developer and operator of village-centered resorts across
North America. In January 1996 Intrawest Corporation and Mammoth
Mountain Ski Area announced that 33% of Mammoth and June Mountain
ski operations, as well as all of the developable real estate owned
by Mammoth Mountain Ski Area had been purchased by Intrawest Corporation.
In 1998, Intrawest increased their partnership interest to 58%.
The company owns ten mountain resorts, including Whistler/Blackcomb,
rated North America's #1 resort. Intrawest also owns Sandestin,
a golf and beach resort in Florida, and has a significant investment
in Compagnie des Alpes, the largest ski company in the world in
terms of skier visits.
Intrawest has comprehensively analyzed the unique opportunities
and constraints associated with the development of the Mammoth Resort
Corridor. Its development properties, collectively known as Project
Sierra, encompass three neighborhoods within the Resort Corridor
individually known as The Village at Mammoth, Sierra Star, and Juniper
Springs. Project Sierra covers approximately 240 acres and will
take approximately 10 years to complete.
The Project Sierra
master plans carefully define the areas and development criteria
that will allow sustained growth in an environmentally responsible
manner. Component parts of the three master plans focus on revitalizing
the local economy by enlarging the base of guest accommodations,
rejuvenating The Village at Mammoth commercial area, enhancing connections
to Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and expanding the variety and richness
of experiences and activities available throughout the year in Mammoth.
